Generating Connector Accessories (I.E. Fasteners, Lanyard Cables, Brackets)
Hello to all,
We're currently looking at a process to model connector accessories in a way that they do not need a formboard model to show up on drawings, but we would need to show up on the BOM Output for the Harness in Question. I haven't been able to find any resources on how to generate these types of components in the Database yet.
Currently we were seeing if we could produce them as a Standard Device and only assign the balloon symbol to them as a way just to get them on the BOM. Open to any suggestions or processes as to the generation of these "connector accessories" excl. wire seals of course.
Thank you,
-Francisco

Hi Francisco,
One suggestion is to create the components as dynamic components if you do not require a symbol to be placed on either a schematic and/or formboard sheet. Dynamic components are components that do not have a structure defined. Then with the dynamic components, you can add them as additional parts to your connectors.
You can create dynamic components by choosing the "Standard Device" option in the Component Wizard, and defining all component data. Do not add any symbols to the component sheet and save once completed. You will receive a message informing you that the component does not have a structure and will be saved as a dynamic component. For more details on dynamic components, please review the "Defining Components without Structure / Dynamic Components" from the E3.series Help Documentation.
Here are two options for adding these connector accessories as additional parts:
- Using the attribute "Additional Part" in the device properties of a selected connector. You would set the value to the component code of the accessory.
- Using the Harness Builder for E3.series Additional Parts feature. Select the connector, then open the Harness Builder for E3.series window to the Additional Parts tab, and add values for each accessory to apply. The parts that are listed here are based on the value set for the attribute "Component Group" being set to the part selected. The Harness Builder for E3.series Help documentation has a section for more details if needed.
Both options should populate in the Harness Builder for E3.series BOM output.
Since you are a customer on maintenance I have added some links to related articles here on the Community to reference. Make sure you are logged in to view the content.
