How to export e3 project file signal signal structure (XML)?

I heard you can export an xml file edit and import to update a projects signal structure but I can't find any literature or assistance on how to do this.

  The signal structure can be defined in XML and imported, changes to the structure within E3 is limited and there is not currently a feature to export. If you have specific requirements we can help find a good solution.
