Hello Norbert.
Here are the instructions to 1) create a visible layer group and 2) assign a key
Visible Layer Groups
The visible layers and the active layer can be registered as a group.
Operation Basics:
- Select View à Edit Visible Layer Groups or select the “V” in the edit mode dialog.
- Selecting New will bring up the New Visible Layer Group dialog.
- Identify the Group Name, the Layers to be Visible and the Active Layer. Select OK and Apply.
- Continue to add as many Layer Groups as you require for the design.
For the purpose of easy layer switching in the routing tool, an options exists to customize key maps. After setting up Visible Layer Groups as outlined above, you can customize a single key stroke to enable the layer group.
Operation Basics:
- Select Environment à Customize
- With the Command Tab visible, select the Visible Layer Group and note the command string which displays on the Command Dialog. Select the text and Copy it. (Control – C)
- Select the tab marked Key-Map
- Review the list of keys available to map. Select the key and select Modify
- Change the comment to something meaningful, for example Layer1 if you are programming turning on a visible layer group layer 1
- Paste the command string text.
- Select OK

Hi Norbert,
When you indicated "key" I assumed you meant a keyboard command, so my instruction was based on doing that. I think this is easier than trying to add icons or additional menu options.
See below for more details. Please try it rather than adding icons.
