Cannot add symbol to component
I'm creating a new component for a connector backshell but I am not able to assign a symbol to my component. Here's my order of operations:
1. I created the symbols (a side view symbol and a preview image) and saved to the database.
2. Created the component as a "Standard Device"
3. Through the "Component Properties" window I assigned the image as the preview symbol and entered in the attribute info (i.e. description, part number, etc.).
4. From the database "Symbol" tab I tried to drag the side view symbol into the component workspace but my curser icon changes to the red circle with the strike through line and I can't drop it anywhere. I also tried placing the symbol through the RMB menu but I get the same thing and it doesn't work.
What could be preventing me from adding a symbol to a component?

Your steps appear to be correct.
Can you provide screen shots of the symbol and its properties? Same with your new backshell?

Here is the symbol and properties
And here is the component and properties
I thought maybe there is something wrong with the symbol I just created but I can't add any symbol to this component.

I think the issue is that you've defined the backshell symbol as type "Connector". Your backshell component appears to be defined as a "Standard Device". I think E3 is preventing you from placing wrong type of symbol.
Create a new backshell symbol of type "Normal" and see if that resolves the issue.
